Welcome to the Ark R!
Hello! Our class is called The Reception Ark and we are 4 and 5 years old.
We enjoy coming to school to play and learn together. We have a lovely, busy classroom, full of activities which help us to learn. We love to learn how to read by using phonics and sharing stories. We love numbers – we count everything, every day! The characters in TenTown help us to learn to recognise numbers.
We have a really large garden to play in. We have a play house, a vegetable patch, an orchard, a play train, a stage and a mud pie kitchen. It’s so much fun and we play outside every day – no matter what the weather! We love our 2 guinea pigs called Lola and Fifi. Sometimes they live outside in their hutch and sometimes they live in the classroom. We love to cuddle them and look after them.
The staff in the reception class use an electronic learning journey programme called Tapestry to record our learning and progress. Parents are encouraged to keep up to date with their child’s learning journey on Tapestry and to upload photos or short videos of us so that Mrs Mills can see how clever we are at home!
We read our books and word cards every week and we take phonics cards home so that we can teach our grown-ups about the letter sounds that we’re learning.
Each term, we have a new topic around which our work is based. Our topics are as follows:-
Autumn A – All About Me
Autumn B – Happy Days
Spring A – Our School
Spring B – Plants & Animals
Summer A – Favourite Stories & Rhymes
Summer B – Under the Sea
If you have any questions about the work that we do in the reception class, please come and have a chat with Mrs Mills, Mrs Linkman or Ms Baxter or email Mrs Mills on firstname.lastname@example.org
